Solution to keepin' it Real Elementary DVD problem

If you are still having problems getting the videos to play in the Revised Elementary keepin’ it Real PowerPoint presentations, read the following Microsoft support page.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982947

It looks like installing the latest PowerPoint viewer will resolve the issue if you do not have PowerPoint 2007 or later.

If you have PowerPoint 2007, click on the Office Button in the upper left corner of PowerPoint and select “PowerPoint Options” at the bottom of the drop down box.  On the left side, click on “Resources” and look at the last line on the right. It should say something like, “Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 (some numbers) SP3 MSO (more numbers). If there is no SP# or it is less than SP2, then you need to upgrade to PowerPoint 2007, Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later. Information on the upgrade is located at:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949585

If you have PowerPoint 2010 or later, you should have no problems.

Hope this helps.

D.A.R.E. Elementary School Curriculum Student Planners

We are excited that the national implementation of D.A.R.E.’s new keepin’ it REAL (kiR) elementary curriculum will commence in early 2012.

D.A.R.E. instructors having received training for the new kiR elementary curriculum have expressed an exceptionally positive response. D.A.R.E.’s kiR elementary curriculum will serve as an ideal companion to the evidence-based and applauded D.A.R.E. kiR middle school curriculum.

Deep appreciation is extended to Dr. Michael Hecht, Dr. Michelle Miller-Day, The Pennsylvania State University, and the many D.A.R.E. officers and educators who gave selflessly of their talent, time and resources to create the new curriculum.

As previously announced and in keeping with established practice, all D.A.R.E. programs will have one year from the date of availability of the new D.A.R.E. kiR elementary student planner to complete transition to the new curriculum.

To ensure availability of workbooks for agencies planning to continue delivery of the existing D.A.R.E. elementary curriculum, not the new D.A.R.E. kiR elementary curriculum, through the fall 2012 semester, orders for those workbooks must be placed no later than May 18, 2012.

Student planners for the new D.A.R.E. kiR elementary curriculum will be available in early 2012. In keeping with the innovations introduced in the new curriculum, the student planner will be very much different from planners used in the past.

D.A.R.E. America recognizes the fiscal constraints within which law enforcement and school entities must operate. For more than ten years D.A.R.E. America has not raised the price of workbooks, absorbing what have been significant increases in production costs (paper, ink, printing, shipping, etc.). With the new D.A.R.E. kiR elementary workbook, D.A.R.E. America will continue an almost 30-year history of providing quality student materials at the lowest cost possible.

D.A.R.E. kiR elementary workbook is $1.29. The D.A.R.E. kiR student planner remains a bargain and is priced significantly below student materials for other prevention education programs, some of which cost $5-$6 per workbook.

Should you have any questions, or if we may offer assistance in any other way, please feel free to call Scott Gilliam or myself at 310-215-0575.

Respectfully, Francisco Pegueros Executive Director & COO
